چکیده

The first step in the dynamic modelling of pesticides is a reliable hydrodynamic model. SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool) calculates both the dynamic hydrological response and the associated diffuse pesticide supply towards surface waters. In this study, we focus on the hydrodynamic part. First, an intensive data collection for the Nil-catchment was performed. During model set-up, a reduction of the number of model parameters was obtained using an LH-OAT sensitivity analysis. Next, the selected parameters were optimised by a manual and an auto-calibration. The auto-calibration procedure is based on a multiobjective function which incorporates the algorithms of the Shuffled Complex Evolution Method. Results of the manual and the auto-calibration are compared.

Watershed modelling of hydrology and water quality in the Sacramento River watershed, California

Agricultural pollutant runoff is a major source of water contamination in California’s Sacramento River watershed where 8500 km of agricultural land influences water quality. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrology, sediment, nitrate and pesticide transport components were assessed for the Sacramento River watershed. To represent flood conveyance in the area, the model was improved ...

Modifications to the SWAT code for modelling direct pesticide losses

In different river catchments in Europe, pesticide concentrations in surface waters frequently exceed the standards, possibly resulting in negative impacts on aquatic fauna and flora. Pesticides can enter river systems both immediately after application, i.e. as a direct loss, or with some time delay due to runoff or leaching. We define a direct loss as the sum of point losses and drift losses ...

Assessment of climate and land use change impacts with SWAT

The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is a deterministic continuous-time semi-distributed hydrological model for application at the river basin scale. The model was developed by the USDA Agricultural Research Service in the early 1990s based on Simulator for Water Resources in Rural Basins (SWRRB) and including routing procedures from Routing Outputs To Outlet (ROTO) tool (Arnold et al. 199...

Evaluation of the Langmuir model in the Soil and Water Assessment Tool for a high soil phosphorus condition

Phosphorus adsorption by a water treatment residual was tested through Langmuir and linear sorption isotherms and applied in the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). This study uses laboratory and greenhouse experimental Phosphorus data to evaluate the performance of a modified version of SWAT for high P concentration simulation development. A combination of vegetative filter strips (VFS) and...

Hydrologic and atrazine simulation of the Cedar Creek Watershed using the SWAT model.

One of the major factors contributing to surface water contamination in agricultural areas is the use of pesticides. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) is a hydrologic model capable of simulating the fate and transport of pesticides in an agricultural watershed. The SWAT model was used in this study to estimate stream flow and atrazine (2-chloro-4-(ethylamino)-6-(isopropylamino)-s-triazi...
